Article

Just three years before he passed away, Dr. Nissenbaum was asked to publish an article in The Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology detailing the story behind his discovery of Nissenbaum’s Fixative. He resisted doing so for a full year, citing the fact that he simply lacked the time because of the exigencies of his medical practice and of teaching his beloved residents at the Jersey City Medical Center. In truth, he was a humble man and self-aggrandizement was just not his way. However, the Journal persisted on the basis that Nissenbaum’s Fixative was such a milestone in the field of Microbiology that it was important that the story be told. He finally relented and after well over a year of work, produced the following article.
